Artist's Bio

A native of China, I graduated in Winnipeg in 1975 as an engineer to fulfill a family wish but I was always interested in art and had a burning desire to become an artist.

I became an education director for a hair product company for 9 years. Representing the establishment to conduct hair design and product lines shows in many parts of the world provided the opportunity for me to visit many different art galleries.

Also interested in photography, I took classes in a college, and as a photographer I can transform a 2 dimensional subject into a 3 dimensional composition. In 1998 I sacrificed part of my working hours to take up ceramic classes and life drawing.

Influenced by my ceramic teacher, I was exposed to the many possibilities of using different mediums to create different art forms and expressions. I began to take ceramic workshops from specialists who shared their expertise and insight from years of experience. My interest in ceramics sculpting intensified and gradually brought me closer to fulfilling my dream.

Artists who influence and inspire me the most are the following: Bruno Lucchesi, Richard Avedon, Art Kane, Tamara Lempika, Fredrick Hart, and Rudy Autio.

Artist’s Statement:
